about me

Part jazz drummer, part writer, part educator. I don't really know how best to describe myself. Except that I buy too many books and don't manage to read them all. I have an interest in philosophy and a growing interest in literature. I try to write about things that interest me.

I feel like my education was lacking so I try, try, to be an autodidact. I always want to learn more, usually through online courses. Recently, I've been studying:

• Good with Words: Writing and Editing - University of Michigan.
• The Strategy of Content Marketing - UC Davis.
• Introduction to Philosophy - University of Edinburgh.

on Coursera.

Other qualifications include, an MA in Jazz Performace from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and a TEFL.

While in based in Tokyo, I have developed an appreciation for the concept of wabi-sabi and Zen, and the importance of intercultural communication.

I lead a jazz piano trio with musicians from Japan and Canada, and in addition to this website, I manage a website called On Jazz Drumming, which offers ideas and inspiration for those interested in jazz drumming or drumming in general.
